Personal protective equipment (PPE) is the gear a worker wears to reduce exposure to hazards that can cause injury or occupational illness. Those hazards can be physical, chemical, biological, electrical, thermal or mechanical. Typical PPE includes safety helmets, safety glasses and goggles, face shields, gloves, safety footwear, earplugs and earmuffs, respirators, high-visibility clothing and full-body harnesses.
PPE is the last line of defence. It protects only the person wearing it, and only when it is the right type, fits properly and is worn correctly every time. This course explains where PPE sits in the hierarchy of controls, how to choose it from a hazard assessment, and how to train, inspect and maintain it.
The content follows good international practice, including OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart I and ISO 45001, and relates it to workplace duties under the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 and Bangladesh Labour Rules 2015. It is written for supervisors, safety officers, engineers and workers in factories, construction, power, oil and gas, and RMG facilities.
